Indus Mortgages was founded by Biju Surendran and Soumya Shine, two finance professionals who saw an opportunity to bring genuine expertise and a personal touch to mortgage advice in New Zealand.
Between them, they bring years of experience in accounting, taxation, finance, and network engineering. Because they've navigated property and lending themselves, they know exactly what New Zealanders need to get into the right loan.

Biju Surendran
Co-Founder & Principal Adviser
With over 13 years of experience in accounting, taxation and finance, Biju brings a rare depth of knowledge to every mortgage decision. Before founding Indus Mortgages, he ran a successful accounting firm, giving him an unusually sharp eye for the numbers behind every deal.
Since 2003, Biju has built a portfolio of successful residential properties across New Zealand, so when he talks about property investment, he speaks from lived experience, not just theory.

Soumya Shine
Co-Founder & Senior Financial Adviser
Soumya's path to mortgage advising is anything but ordinary. She started in network engineering before transitioning into accounting, where she spent over a decade with a New Zealand accounting firm. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma from MIT (Manukau Institute of Technology) and brings that analytical rigour to every client conversation.
A mother of two and actively engaged in the community, Soumya has a particular passion for first home buyers and families navigating one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives.

Mathews brings a fresh perspective to the team, drawing on diverse work experience and a track record of leading winning sports teams. He has a genuine ability to connect with clients who are navigating career changes or taking on their first major financial commitments.
Currently training to become a fully qualified financial adviser, Mathews is community-engaged and committed to making mortgage advice more accessible for everyone.

Rekha is the backbone of operations at Indus Mortgages. As Admin Manager, every application passes through her hands, and her sharp eye and organised approach keep the whole team running smoothly behind the scenes. Quietly dedicated and dependable, she is known for her warmth and her genuine care for the people around her.

Mortgage Adviser
Lijo brings a strong mix of technical expertise and real-world industry experience, with over 12 years across construction, civil engineering, building consent processing, and residential housing design. That background lets him understand property from both a building and a financial standpoint, a real advantage when clients have questions about inspections, consents, compliance, or structural matters.
He holds a qualification in Construction Management, is a qualified Building Inspector accredited by the Building Officials Institute of New Zealand, and is currently pursuing a Master's in Civil Engineering at the University of Auckland. Known for his honest, approachable advice, Lijo is passionate about helping first home buyers, investors, and families make confident, well-informed decisions.
